There are many things to consider when you are deciding to choose a personal trainer. A few of the items you might review are:
- Education. Do they have a degree in the field of health, exercise, fitness and/or wellness?
- Experience. How long have they been personal training? What type of client do they commonly work with?
- Personality. Would you enjoy working out, exercising and training with the personal trainer on a good day and a bad day?
- Role Model. Does the trainer practice the lifestyle that they preach?
- Communication. Do you find it easy to communicate with the personal trainer? Do you feel that the trainer is being honest, open and accessible during your communication? Does the trainer communicate in methods that you are willing to use, i.e. phone, email, text messaging, online programming?
- Certification. Does the trainer currently hold certifications in personal training? Is that personal training certification through a respected organization within the field of exercise and sport science?
- Specialty. Does the trainer specialize in a method of exercise or program you are looking for? I.e. sports performance, weight management, lifestyle and wellness programming, functional training, yoga, pilates, group classes, etc.
